Why Ignoring the Environment is XL Bad for Business

On Canada Day (July 1) I am adding a great company to my list of previous employers on my LinkedIn profile. It’s not because I want to; it’s because it’s closing. C3, an Alberta, Canada based social enterprise dedicated to energy efficiency, will be officially done. Kaput. Gonzo. I’m not writing this because I’m angry about not getting another paycheque from C3; I’m writing this because I’m totally dumbfounded that Alberta would have such a cavalier attitude towards the environment and their own economic future. Death by 1,000 Funding Cuts C3 was originally founded by the Government of Alberta in 2000 to run energy efficiency programs and their carbon offset registry. I enjoyed using it way too much, and it was affecting me and my family in ways I wasn’t at all happy with. According to this 2012 CNET article, I was in very good company: 58% of smartphone users don’t go more than one hour without checking their phones 54% of users check their phones in bed One in three check their phones during meals 73% feel panic when they misplace their phones 7% feel sick when...

What My Two-Year-Old Can Teach You About Content Marketing

“Daddy, do bunny-rabbits cut up other furry animals with their little rabbit knives?” Says Jack to me two weeks ago during bedtime. “What?” I say, with not a small amount of horror, as my mind races to figure out if my two-year-old son has any idea what he’s saying. “Do they cut them all up?” He deadpans… his four-year-old brother starts laughing. “With their knives Daddy, with their knives?” Meet Jack Charles Graham, the King of the One-Liners My two-year-old is known around our house as the King of the One-Liners. Jack learned to speak early and is a constant source of entertainment. He spits out something great every day and my wife and I are pretty sure if we...
